Sporting invitation to try bocce and petanque
THE University of the Third Age (U3A) in Wanneroo will celebrate construction of its petanque and bocce pitch during WA Seniors Week until November 17.
Organiser Constance O’Brien said the event would feature petanque and bocce demonstrations by members of U3A and Azzurri Bocce Club, and a chance to play.
“It will be a thank you to the City of Wanneroo, community groups, individuals and schools to show our appreciation of everyone involved in supporting the development of the pitch,” she said.
U3A has received a
$700 grant from the Council on the Ageing WA to help with the fun day, with the money going to provide outdoor settings and a light lunch from Joseph Banks Secondary College students.
Ms O’Brien said while it was a private event, anyone would be able to use the Wanneroo Recreation Centre pitch in the future and could visit
u3auwa.org or call 9206
4098 for more details. Other local Seniors Week grant recipients include $990 for the City of Wanneroo with its Antiques Uncovered event tomorrow, and $550 for Kingsley’s Brightwater Care Group Transition Facility for its Life in the Country celebration.
