Sport­ing in­vi­ta­tion to try bocce and petanque

THE Univer­sity of the Third Age (U3A) in Wan­neroo will cel­e­brate con­struc­tion of its petanque and bocce pitch dur­ing WA Se­niors Week un­til Novem­ber 17.

Or­gan­iser Con­stance O’Brien said the event would fea­ture petanque and bocce demon­stra­tions by mem­bers of U3A and Az­zurri Bocce Club, and a chance to play.

“It will be a thank you to the City of Wan­neroo, com­mu­nity groups, in­di­vid­u­als and schools to show our ap­pre­ci­a­tion of ev­ery­one in­volved in sup­port­ing the de­vel­op­ment of the pitch,” she said.

U3A has re­ceived a

$700 grant from the Coun­cil on the Age­ing WA to help with the fun day, with the money go­ing to pro­vide out­door set­tings and a light lunch from Joseph Banks Se­condary Col­lege stu­dents.

Ms O’Brien said while it was a pri­vate event, any­one would be able to use the Wan­neroo Re­cre­ation Cen­tre pitch in the fu­ture and could visit

4098 for more de­tails. Other lo­cal Se­niors Week grant re­cip­i­ents in­clude $990 for the City of Wan­neroo with its An­tiques Un­cov­ered event to­mor­row, and $550 for Kings­ley’s Bright­wa­ter Care Group Tran­si­tion Fa­cil­ity for its Life in the Coun­try cel­e­bra­tion.
