Birt, Thompson put Roos on course to win
WANNEROO has jumped to 11th on the ladder, following its second win in as many matches after a brilliant batting performance against Joondalup on Saturday at Kingsway Sports Ground.
Resuming battle at 133, the Roos lost heart and soul batsman Matthew Spoors early on in the innings to be floundering on 2-47.
However, Travis Birt and Stuart Thompson entered the fray and immediately turned the match on its head.
The dynamic duo blasted a spectacular 169run third-wicket partnership to zoom past Joondalup’s total and secure the first-innings victory.
Birt was eventually dismissed at 3-216 after producing a masterful century, which comprised 12 fours and four sixes in his total of 113.
Haydn Slodecki and Thompson fell soon after as the Roos pushed the total to 5-236, with Thompson scoring 87 from 130 and providing an excellent foil to Birt’s innings.
Christian Smith and Caiden Eaton added some late-innings fireworks helping boost the score to
303 before the Roos declared.
Connor Chadwick tried his best for the Centurions with the ball, taking a respectable 3-93 amongst the carnage.
Joondalup managed to stave off an outright defeat, navigating through
34 overs and finishing with 4-73.
