Heat hits back at Bite

Joondalup Times - - SPORT -

PERTH Heat poured in an avalanche of runs to come back from two games down and tie their away series against Adelaide Bite in the Australian Baseball League.

After dropping the first two games of the series, the visitors rebounded to score an incredible 30 runs over the final two games to square the series and improve to 9-3 for the season.

They have scored 112 runs from 126 hits.

In the first game, a Markus Solbach-inspired Adelaide recorded a 3-0 shutout at the Diamond Sports Complex as the German pitcher struck out 14 batters across seven scoreless innings.

The Heat were held to just five hits as they were shutout for the first time this season, before they came agonisingly close to squaring the ledger in a 3-2 loss in game 2.

Perth came out swinging, but the Bite struck first as Stefan Welch and Jordan McArdle hammered fourthinning home runs to give the hosts a 3-0 lead.

The Heat hit back immediately as veteran Tim Kennelly launched a two-run blast of his own to bring Perth within a run, but they were unable to tie the game.

It was a different story in game 3, as Perth’s hitters found form to lead them to a

17-5 win, sparked by tworun hits from Peter Kozma and Carl Chester.

The Heat picked up where they left off in game

4, as Nick Veale tossed six shutout innings and the offence stayed hot to record a

13-1 win.
