INCREASING numbers of girls playing football will see Wanneroo Secondary College introduce a specialist program next year.

AFL co-ordinator Tom Moscarda said the school decided to introduce the Year 7 and 8 specialist AFLW girls’ program in 2019 to meet demand.

Mr Moscarda said the program would start with 32 students.

“Some of the local primary schools are doing great work with their students and we had our biggest group of Year 6s trial this year,” he said.

“We expect the popularity of the game to continue to rise, hence the need to cater for our girls.”

Mr Moscarda said the program would have an emphasis on fundamental skills, improving game knowledge and fun.

“We’ll look to build relationships with Fremantle and West Perth’s women’s teams and give students professional coaching and resources to improve,” he said.
