Hillary hopes high for Easter coaching regatta status
HILLARYS Yacht Club will ramp up for next year’s Easter dinghy coaching regatta with an increased focus on high-level coaching and off-water activities.
Announcing the club’s second multi-fleet Easter coaching regatta, commodore Neil Harrison said the vision for the event was to achieve “must-do” status on coaches’ and class calendars after a successful inaugural event in 2018.
“The 68 entries across eight classes certainly confirmed that there is solid demand for a blue water regatta like this in Perth,” he said.
“The goal now is to ramp up the learning opportunities and increase the onshore activities for participants.”
Classes invited to compete in next year’s regatta, which will be held to the west and north sides of Hillarys marina, include Optimist, Laser, Bic, Minnow, National 125, Taser, 420 and 29ers.
The event will continue to be an Optimist ranking regatta, while the organising committee is discussing the addition of other classes with state associations.
Harrison said the club hoped to again attract highlevel coaches as well as experienced sailors to instruct and talk about their championship results.
Hillarys Yacht Club will host its second Easter regatta in 2019.
