MINDARIE Regional Council will hold an open day at its Tamala Park recycling and waste disposal facility this Saturday. The September 1 event will include a reopening of its re-use shop, where people can buy second-hand furniture and household goods. “The shop has long been an important part of the Tamala Park facility,” education manager Geoff Atkinson said. “(It’s) a way for the community to prevent good serviceable items, valuable resources, from going to landfill and also be of community benefit being a source of reasonably priced second-hand goods. “Its popularity has grown in recent times, encouraging the MRC to double the size of the shop and give it a makeover.” Mr Atkinson said the shop now had better protection from the weather and a larger range of items for sale, as well as extended opening times, seven days a week from 9am to 4pm. The free event will include tours, entertainment, facepainting, displays, junk art, talks and workshops between 10am and 3pm at 1700 Marmion Avenue. There will also be a sausage sizzle, gelato and coffee, with free coffee offered to those who bring their own cup. For more information, visit www.mrc.wa.gov.au.
