WEARING what makes you feel comfortable is key to looking your best during the Spring Racing Carnival season, says Perth hair and make-up artist Elicia Rudd.

“Don't wear a headpiece that you need to take off as soon as you arrive at an event and make sure you go for a make-up look that requires minimal maintenance through the day,” she said.

“Less is more as far as make-up goes, although I do love a bold lip colour to complement an outfit or headpiece.”

Rudd keenly awaits racing season every year and the glamour that comes with it.

Providing beauty expertise to racing events and campaigns over the years, she knows what works on the day and what doesn't.

“Racing looks are traditionally very feminine, so keep this in mind when choosing your looks,” Rudd said.

“Keep make-up dewy and glowing. Try using cream bronzers and blush on the cheeks, and use a brow soap in the brows to brush them up, giving them a softer, fuller look.

“For men, a great suit and good haircut are a must. Add a pop of colour and style with a striking tie or pocket square and don't forget to keep your skin and lips moisturised too, and use a paste or wax in the hair that gives a styled but natural finish.”
