JOONDALUP Kinross Cricket Club is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a family fun day.

The event at Windermere Park in Joondalup from 1pm to 5pm this Sunday will feature games played by the junior, girls and integrated teams, the Perth Scorchers activity bus, petting zoo, bouncy castle, face painting and food trucks.

Founded in 1994 by Rod Sutcliffe and Mark Boag, the club fielded just one senior team in the Wanneroo Cricket Association (now know as the North Suburban Community Cricket Association).

In 1995 a junior division was established, with the club fielding an under-9s side, and it increased its senior division to two teams.

The club then won its first premiership in the 1995-96 season.

“From there, the senior and junior divisions kept getting bigger,” social coordinator Brett Sutcliffe said.

“During the 2007-08 season the club, along with Joondalup Kinross Junior Football Club, held multiple fundraisers for extensions and upgrades to the clubrooms at Windermere Park to accommodate this.

“We also started a Cricket Champs program in 2011, which encourages kids of all ages with disabilities to play cricket. This program is still ongoing on Friday nights and is a pathway into the Integrated League, which encourages men and women with disabilities to play cricket.”

In the 2015-16 season, the club won its first A grade premiership, which was backed up in 2016-17 and again in 2017-18. It is now aiming for four in a row.

Joondalup Kinross Cricket Club currently has five senior teams, 16 junior teams and one Integrated team.
