SHARING the good times and the tough times of life together is part of the secret to a long marriage, according to Morris and Patricia Ellson.

The northern suburbs couple celebrated 64 years of marriage at the Kalamunda Hotel last month at the very spot they spent their first night as husband and wife.

Morris said they had been returning to the Hills pub every year for the past 10 years to mark their anniversary.

“I grew up in Guildford and Trish in Caversham and we met when we were little kids; she was my best mate’s sister,” he said.

“We were married in Guildford at St Matthew’s on May 29, 1954 before being whisked away to the Kalamunda Hotel for our honeymoon.

“Back in the ’50s most married people went to the hotel for their honeymoon because it is such a beautiful spot with the hills and the trees.

“We’ve been returning to the pub every year for the past decade to reminisce about our wedding day, our time there, and the wonderful years we’ve spent together.”
