Valencia expansion rejected
THE East Metro Joint Development Assessment Panel has unanimously rejected a proposal to expand the Valencia Nursing Home in Carmel.
The panel rejected the proposal because of land use conflicts with a neighbouring poultry farm, amenity concerns over onsite parking and the “excessive” size of the development in a rural area.
Friends of Aged Care coordinator Iris Jones said the group was disappointed by the decision.
“There is currently a hiatus in tangible results in aged care here, with nothing happening despite the crisis,” she said. “My greatest fear is Roshana Care will become dispirited in their efforts to provide facilities here, given the JDAP refusal.
“Aged care providers need to know that they are welcome here by those in need and by the general community.”
Kalamunda MP Matthew Hughes said while he was also disappointed with the JDAP decision, it showed developers must engage with the community.
“The decision underscores yet again the absolute need for proponents to engage early in the piece with affected residents to assist with the appropriate planning,” he said.
