THE City of Kalamunda has adopted its 2018-19 budget and long-term financial plan, with residential rates to increase by 2 per cent this financial year.

Mayor John Giardina said this year’s budget would save more than $1million through energyefficiency initiatives, renegotiation of insurance contracts and a reduction in fleet vehicles.

“The financial outlook is challenging and many community members are facing financial hardship due to higher unemployment and significant increases in State Government fees and charges,” he said.

“Accordingly, the City is committed to maintaining close control over rate increases.”

The budget includes $25 million in capital works.
