The long-awaited official opening of the Norseman Airstrip will go ahead by next month.
The $3.2 million upgrade of the strip into an all-weather facility was completed earlier this year.
The airstrip had a few test runs leading up to its official opening.
“We’re already seeing an interest in it from both the mining and tourism sectors,” Shire of Dundas chief executive Peter Fitchat said.
“We’ve had a couple of unscheduled landings as well, so there’s definitely an interest and it will greatly benefit the community.”
The Shire of Dundas will set an official opening date this week, some time between November 26 and December 9.
“It’s really exciting to be finally opening the airstrip,” Mr Fitchat said.
“It’s something the councillors have been lobbying for (for) quite a while.”
The council will vote on a date at tonight’s special council meeting.
