Minchin in town to shoot new TV series Upright
Locals were treated to a glimpse of stardom yesterday as filming began in Kalgoorlie-Boulder for Tim Minchin’s upcoming television series Upright.
Cast and crew were spotted yesterday morning on YMCA Way behind the Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association building and again at the corner of Ivanhoe and Davis streets in Boulder, where Minchin and fellow stars shot scenes for the eight-part series.
The narrative follows struggling musician Lucky Flynn (Minchin) as he journeys from Sydney to Perth to be with his dying mother, a trek during which he forms an unlikely friendship with a teenage misfit played by rising star Milly Alcock.
In a press release, Minchin said he had been captivated by the idea of the series right from the beginning.
“From the moment I heard about the idea for Upright, I knew it was the show I’d been waiting to make,” he said.
“I like stories that make me laugh and think and cry. I adore the landscapes of outback Australia, and I love music, and homecomings, and characters full of flaws.”
