Athletes put best foot forward at meet
Boys’ under-eight competitor Jack O’Dwyer stole the show with a record-breaking display at last Friday night’s Goldfields little athletics meeting.
In the lone new mark set on the night, Jack recorded a time of 1min.54.72sec. in the 500m event.
Jack’s impressive run highlighted a big night in the division that included Lyan Tuhakaraina’s solid form.
Action in the boys’ under-12 divi- sion included a strong 1500m display from Jake Tucker, with under-11 competitor Jaxon Marr also impressive.
Boys’ under-nine members are in their first season of 400m competition, but are already turning in impressive times.
Each athlete tackling the distance last weekend clocked personal best times.
The early stages of the 2018-19 campaign has not been restricted to local youngsters, with athletes from Leinster and Laverton also prominent. Action continues tonight at the Goldfields Oasis playing fields at 6pm.
The first half of the local campaign runs until December 14 before a break for Christmas.
However, a mid-January resumption offers local members just one meeting to hone their skills before taking on regional WA’s best in Albany the next weekend.
Goldfields faced a similar dilemma last summer, but still won 100 medals.
