Man jailed for assault
A MAN who sent his partner to hospital because he punched her in the head 45 times has been sent to prison.
Appearing via video link from Hakea prison, the man was sentenced at Rockingham Magistrates Court on May 18 for 13 charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm, breaching family violence restraining orders and breaching protective bail.
Magistrate Vivian Edwards said there was a need for specific and general deterrence.
“You sent 240 text messages and made 42 phone calls between October 2017 and February 2018,” she said. “Some of the texts were derogatory and offensive.
“You punched this person 45 times to the head and she needed medical treatment at hospital.
“It has been submitted that you should be placed on an order but you have had total disregard for VROs and protective bail.
“You left a program and assaulted your partner. In my view there is no alternative but prison.”
Ms Edwards sentenced him to an immediate term of one year and seven months. He will be eligible for parole.
