IN addition to their self-indulgent trip to Japan (at the expense, of course, of ratepayers) the arrogant and out of touch Rockingham Council have spent a further $7439 celebrating the cash-sapping tenure of outgoing chief executive Andrew Hammond.

In essence, the cost of this mutual admiration and back-slapping event equates to the total annual rates bill of around five hardworking homeowners, who are already struggling with mortgages and escalating costs of living.

Is it really the role of ordinary people to subsidise the bon viveurs in local government?

And when receiving the next glossy invitation to pay the unfair and ever-increasing rates bill, many property owners will undoubtedly remember this latest piece of profligacy. DAVID RUDMAN Port Kennedy
