Animal cruelty rife

Kwinana Courier - - Opinion -

BALDIVIS has consistently ranked in the top three worst suburbs for animal cruelty reports to the RSPCA in the past three years.

The suburb ranked third so far this year on the RSPCA cruelty hotspots with 28 reports. Armadale is in the top spot with 29 cruelty reports.

Baldivis was second (87 cruelty reports) in 2017 and the worst suburb in 2016 (116 reports).

RSPCA WA chief executive David van Ooran said the nature of cruelty complaints changed slightly in each suburb but common complaints were reported across WA.

“In some cases we know people might be experiencing financial hardship and can’t afford vet care, but in more disturbing cases, people have ignored their pet’s suffering.”

He said January and February 2018 had the most cruelty complaints since records began.
