BERTRAM’S Kane McDiarmid has finally tasted the spoils of victory after a near flawless performance in the annual Production Sedan Championship at Kellerberin Speedway earlier this month.

It is the first win of its kind in his decade-long career, having come close several times to the prize previously.

McDiarmid did not disappoint when he took to the track for this season’s running of the event, which doubled as the opening Four Crown Series round.

The 28-year-old drove to victory in his opening two heats before finishing third in his final heat to earn enough points to start the feature race from the inside of the front row.

From there he left the crowd for dust as he set the pace in front for the entire 20-lap distance to clinch what was a longawaited and well-deserved win.

The win adds to McDiarmid’s list of achievements: second in the 2016 National Title at Moora Speedway, third in the 2017 National Title at Wahgunyah Speedway and fifth in the 2014 WA Title at Bunbury Speedway.

“I’ve always wanted to win this event and in past attempts I’ve experienced every type of scenario you could imagine, from DNFs to being passed for the lead on the last corner, so to finally pull it off is an amazing feeling,” he said.

“Many of the country’s best Production Sedan drivers live in WA and the competition is definitely fierce, and to be able to be one of the state’s front-running contenders is really satisfying and helps you when you compete against the rest of the country on the east coast.”

Kane McDiarmid after the win.
