Jordan’s a world champ
BALDIVIS Secondary College Year 8 student Jordan Callum is a BMX world champion.
The Rockingham BMX Club member took out the 20-inch world champion title and came second in the 13 to 14-year-old boy cruiser category.
Jordan went into the UCI BMX World Championships as a rookie and his win surpassed his wildest expectations.
The championships were held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 5 to 9.
There were 66 riders in the 20inch category and Jordan never dropped a lap.
Jordan’s brother Dylan (16) also competed but was eliminated before the quarter-finals.
Jordan started riding BMX bikes as a five-year-old growing up in Tom Price.
To compete in the world championships, he trained six days a week in the gym or on his bike for a year. He is off to the Gold Coast next month to compete and then South Australia in August.
His family are fundraising and looking for sponsors so Jordan can compete in the “greatest race on earth”: the Grands in the US in November.
