Man in custody
COLD Case Homicide Squad detectives have charged Rockingham man Chris Blennerhassett (45) with the murder of missing woman Rebecca Delalande.
The charge followed police searching a site in Bayswater in relation to her disappearance.
Police put the call out last week for information about Ms Delalande’s disappearance.
She had been missing since 2001 but police only become aware of her disappearance last year.
Mr Blennerhassett appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to reappear on November 28.
Cold Case Homicide Squad Detective-Senior Sergeant Craig Stephen said the investigation was ongoing.
“We would like to thank community members for coming forward and assisting with the investigation,” he said. “News of Rebecca’s disappearance has clearly been distressing for her family and friends, and we are committed to resolving this matter.”
Detectives became aware of Ms Delalande’s case in late 2017 during an unrelated investigation.
After looking into it, they discovered she had been missing since 2001.
“Rebecca was in infrequent contact with her family prior to her disappearance, and they had formed the belief that she had relocated to the eastern states,” Det-Sen Sgt Stephen said.
Detectives are still encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
