Rats plucky in hockey defeat
Netball decider this Friday night
Kyabram-Echuca’s B-grade women put up a good fight against powerhouse Euroa, but went down 2-0 in their Goulburn Valley Hockey Association match.
The Rats started poorly and went a goal down early.
Kyabram-Echuca steadied themselves and were led in defence by fill-in Meg Farrell who managed to block many of Euroa’s attacks.
Fill-in goalie Erin Thompson saved many and was one of the Rats best, however, Euroa smashed their second into the back of the net just before half time.
The Kyabram-Echuca girls improved in the second half and some great passing out from the centre by Renee Thomson and Narelle Thomson gave the young forwards opportunity to shine in the circle.
Some good footwork and ball skills from both Chloe Kell (with “strong” encouragement from mum on the sidelines) and Rachael Costello were unlucky not to have resulted in goals.
Strong attacking combinations from Mariah Kingma and Olivia Mitchell down the left side with support at the post from Costello also led to opportunities in the circle but the Rats just couldn’t get one past the Euroa keeper.
Best for Kyabram-Echuca were Meg Farrell 3, Olivia Mitchell 2, Narelle Thomson 1.
Snow White is through to the Kyabram Netball Association 13 and under competition grand final.
They defeated Blue 36-15 in the preliminary final last Friday.
Una Teuhoma-Fotu was adjudged most valuable player in the final.
Snow White will play Orange Oranges in the decider at Northern Oval on Friday night at 6pm.
All are welcome to come and watch the game and presentation ceremony afterwards for both the playing teams and the best and fairest award for the 13 and under competition season.
Players are asked to bring a plate for supper.
