Fire destroys Lancaster home

- By Holly Tregenza

A MAN was asleep in his Lancaster home when it erupted in flames yesterday morning. He escaped without injury but the house was destroyed despite the efforts of seven fire trucks.

A HOME on the corner of Lancaster-Moroopna Road and Byrneside-Kyabram Road in Lancaster was engulfed by flames yesterday, with smoke significantly reducing visibility for drivers in the vicinity.

Seven CFA trucks battled to put out the flames after the alarm was raised just after 9.20am.

At least one man was asleep in the home at the time and woke to the smell of smoke and the sounds of the fire.

Thankfully no-one was injured.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but neighbours said the owner speculated that it was caused by an electric fault.

School holidays have begun, so no children or staff from the nearby primary school were affected by the smoke.
