Let’s make it a Good Friday to remember

- By Holly Tregenza

IT IS a rare moment when Kyabram CFA Captain Mick Crompton is lost for words. But last week that’s exactly what happened when an anonymous person donated $2380 towards the Kyabram and district Good Friday Appeal, a great start to the Royal Children’s Hospital fundraiser. Now he is encouraging others to dig deep so Kyabram can raise $26,000 – more than last year’s remarkable $25,000 effort. THE Kyabram and district Good Friday Appeal got off to a roaring start last week when an anonymous local donated $2380.

Kyabram CFA Captain Mick Crompton said he got the shock of his life when the donation was delivered.

“It was a rare moment where I was actually lost for words. I’m really blown away by the generosity of this family, it’s amazing,” he said.

Locals are being encouraged to dig deep this Easter weekend, with the fundraiser for the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) in full swing.

Last year Kyabram raised just over $25,000, and this year Mr Crompton hopes to see even more support for the hospital’s vital work.

The goal has been set at $26,000.

A $1000 donation from the annual Meoff Poker Run and an additional $1000 from the Parkland Charity Golf Day has set the ball rolling.

Members from the Kyabram CFA have also been cooking up a storm on Allan Street with three fundraising barbecues last week.

On Friday, CFA volunteers from Kyabram, Merrigum and Wyuna as well Kyabram SES members will hit the streets to door knock for donations.

They are encouraging members of the community to help them with their collection throughout the day.

The morning door knock will kick off at 9am from the Kyabram Fire Brigade, which will be open for registrations from 8am. Lunch break is at 12pm with a sausage sizzle provided at the station for those wanting a bite. The afternoon door knock will kick off at 1pm.

The Shell Service Station on Allan Street and Bowser Bean BP will also act as collection points.

‘‘Please give as much as you can, because it’s all going to the kids,’’ Mr Crompton said.

“We all know someone who has been touched by the RCH, and as they always are I just really encourage this community to be generous and dig deep for the Appeal this year.”

Last year a record breaking state total of $18,043,251 was raised for the Good Friday Appeal, and to date more than $345 million has been raised since the Appeal began in 1931.
