Ilett gets VFL game

Former Richmond champion Alex Rance wasn’t the only name local footy fans were familiar with in the Essendon side that lost its VFL clash to top team Southport at the weekend.

Tongala’s fly-in recruit Cam Ilett also pulled on the Essendon jumper to play in the game and help out with numbers due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The 36-year-old Darwin-based Ilett, who played midfield, kicked a goal and was named in Essendon’s best players.

While he still looks up to playing competitive football, Rance says he is not seeking a return to the AFL — claiming his appearance was a "one-time thing".

But Tongala is certainly looking for Ilett’s return in its bid to claim this year’s flag when the Murray League season resumes.
