A historic windmill is back adorning Rochester’s Rotary Park.
Built in 1919 by the Alston Windmill Company, the windmill was gifted to the Rochester community in 1975 by councillors Michael and Helen Clarke of Burnewang North to honour Rotary’s 75-year milestone.
It was installed at Rotary Park in 1979 and when restoration work was needed it was initially going to performed while it was standing up. But this became unfeasible, so it had to be done when it was horizontal.
Cumming Transport, which installed the windmill in 1979, also delivered it back to the Rotary Park last week.
Rochester Rotary Club raised $20,000 for refurbishment of the windmill, with work carried out by local firm Lawford Engineering.
