Ky has Games link

There is a Kyabram link to the current Olympic Games.

Penny Smith, who finished sixth in the women’s trap shooting event, is the granddaughter of former Kyabramites Joan and Col Darwin.

Smith also competed in the mixed pairs trap with Tom Grice, missing a shot at the bronze medal by one target.

Joan was a key figure in the Kyabram Pony Club before moving to the Western District in the 1980s where her family took on farming property under a government closer settlement program.

Joan’s daughter Kim is the mother of Jenny, who made the transition from equestrian competitor to shooter at the prompting of her bother.

She still has her equestrian interests, which she fits it in with her shooting programs and other sporting pursuits.
