Have your say about telecoms problems

- By Myles Peterson

Kyabram residents are not strangers to telecommunications issues.

In June, the township suffered through mobile reception outages for days on end, compromising phone and EFTPOS services during a reported 5G upgrade to the Bradley St tower.

Further disruptions were cancelled by Telstra during the last COVID-19 related lockdown but will return at a yetto-be-announced date.

The Federal Government’s Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee is currently taking submissions, promoted as an opportunity for people living and working in regional areas to share their telecommunications views and experiences.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the committee is staging a series of “virtual” public consultations. In-person consultations will be held at a later stage, according to the committee.

Headed up by former federal Nationals MP Luke Hartsuyker, the purpose of the consultations is to provide feedback to government about the concerns and experiences of rural and regional Australians by December, with a focus on reliability and the effects of government policies and programs.

Written submissions can also be made directly to the committee via
