Game effort from Ky fill-ins
A hard-to-recognise Kyabram reserves side put up a game fight against Shepparton United on Saturday but was overrun in the finish.
The Bombers had to do some busy recruiting to get a side together at the last minute and it was a commendable effort under the circumstances.
One of the highlights was the four-goal performance from Mitchell Dodos who kicked the majority of Kyabram's six goals after playing a top game in the thirds.
Lancaster recruit Nathan Angelino was lively all day and his Wombat teammate Sam Jackson also did some good work in the ruck and pulled off the mark of the day.
Big Brenton Braisier fought hard in defence against a much taller opponent with plenty of support from Luke Donnell while ruckman Jayden Fitzgerald, Jake Gascoyne, Jacob Liversidge, Jack Dunn and Noah Ryan all did some good work.
■ The battle for third spot on the Goulburn Valley League under 18 ladder was claimed by Shepparton United on Saturday.
The Demons saluted over fellow top-four outfit Kyabram by 52 points in the round 14 encounter at Deakin Reserve.
A destructive fourth quarter performance from the hosts was the icing on the cake as they piled on six goals to zip in the last term. Young gun Kaedyn Napier booted six goals in a starring role, while Hayden Brock and Kian Roche were standouts in the 14.10 (94) to 6.6 (42) triumph.
Marcus Barbagallo and Liam Francis flew the flag for the Bombers.
The result puts the Dees in equal second on points with Shepparton Swans.
United is now four points clear of Kyabram with two rounds left in the season.
■ Kyabram under 16s also put up a spirited fight against a finals side but just couldn’t get the job done and have slipped from finals reckoning.
Ollie Watt was a standout and looks a real prospect while Sam Marland, Will Campbell, Josh Hayes, Zayden Pell and Bohden Learmonth worked hard to try and keep Kyabram in touch.
