Tonny leads way with plan

- By Max Stainkamph

Tongala will be the first town in the Campaspe Shire to have a Township Facility Plan embedded within its Place Based Plan.

The TFPS allow communities to give direct feedback on facilities and services used by the community, allowing council to direct funding and support more efficiently.

On Wednesday, August 18, Campaspe Shire Council voted to incorporate the TFPS into all upcoming Place Based Plans and retroactively to completed plans.

Cr Colleen Gates said the TFPS were a “good governance model to put in place”.

“They will provide us with relevant advice and assist us engaging communities about buildings and infrastructure,” she said.

“Information will be coming from communities who know these buildings much better than council officers would.”

Place Based Plans have been carried out in Kyabram and Rochester.

Council also reappointed Linda Macrae as an independent member to Campaspe Shire Council’s Audit and Risk Committee for a further four-year term.

Ms Macrae’s current tenure was due to expire on December 31, but with the resignation of long-serving member Mike Bennett effective on June 30 Ms Macrae threw her hat back in the ring, with council approving her nomination at last week's meeting.

Council also approved the request for netting behind the goals at the Tongala Football Netball Club, on the condition the club pay for and maintain the nets at its own cost, and cover cost of replacing them if council deem it necessary.

Council further delayed its 10-year capital works program to November, while also waiving a $5000 hire fee for Echuca Basketball Association’s hire costs of the Echuca Basketball Stadium in September.

The association will be holding the 2021 Echuca Junior Basketball Tournament from September 24 to 26.

Likewise, Kyabram Swimming Club will also have hire fees of $1590 waived to hire the Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre for the Kyabram Long Distance/long Course meet on October 23 and 24.
