Knitting is not slowing down

-

The Timor Leste knitting project continues to send hundreds of locally crafted garments and toys to those in need living in Australia’s small neighbour, according to Kyabram local organiser Marilyn Anset.

Started over a decade ago and run by Rotary, the project draws on the kind donations of wool and the knitting skills of locals.

More recently, the project has also been supporting a local program known as KOGO — or Knit One Give One — to benefit local charities.

Wool is dropped off to Boomerang Travel and then distributed to local knitters by Mrs Anset, who then collects the products again for transport to Bendigo Rotary.

Members of Rotary then personally deliver the garments and toys, escorting entire bails of knitwear to Timor Leste.

The project met a hurdle due to COVID-19 in 2020 but is now looking to overcome restrictions and lockdowns to continue to provide the charitable goods.

Anyone interested in donating wool and contributing their knitting skills is urged to contact Mrs Anset on 5852 3208.
