Simon’s girls hit all the right notes

- By Rohan Aldous

Simon Ward has a head start on other dads when it comes to the Wiggles, Hi-5 and whatever other child entertainer is “the in thing’’ at the time.

The Kyabram musician is a father of three girls, all of whom have on-call entertainment from their talented father.

Four-year-old Samantha (Sammy), two-year-old Sarah and Sophie, who is one in a couple of weeks’ time, regularly carry their own guitars around the lounge room. So last week’s pose was nothing out of the ordinary for the three guitarists in waiting.

Simon and his wife, Stacie, will be unable to see the girls’ grandparents this Sunday for Father’s Day as they live in Moama, so Nanna and Poppy won’t have a visit this year.

And there will be no sleep-in on Father’s Day.

“I’ll get woken up when the sun comes up, there will be no sleep-in,” Simon said.

The musician of 25 years is a carpenter by trade and works with apprentices during the day

“I started in a five-piece and it's slowly worked its way down to just me,” he said.

He is a regular at a variety of Campaspe venues and has some back-up singers ready to go in 15 or so years.

“The girls love singing, in fact, Sammy sings everything,” Simon said.

“She will probably sing me Happy Father’s Day.

“We made the mistake of telling her she was a good singer and it hasn’t stopped.”

There is no real system behind the family's given names, which all start with S.

“I guess we just liked the names,” Simon said.
