Students support Afghans
Year 12 students at St Augustine’s College have written a message of support to the people of Afghanistan. “We write in solidarity with Afghan Australians and would like to ask our local politicians to address the plight of those suffering in Afghanistan,” the statement reads.
“The Goulburn Valley is home to many who have sought refuge from the Taliban. We ask you to be our voice on this issue and stand up to represent these people in the following ways:
■ To implore our government to grant permanent visas to Afghan refugees living in Australia.
■ Boost the intake of Afghan refugees via some sort of ethical solution which enables the safe transport of these people to our shores.
■ Encourage local resettlement where there are families and support available to these people fleeing terror.
“We would like to see compassionate governance while negotiating this human crisis.”
