Unusually coloured Kooka

Mathoura resident Anne Robertson, known for her hospitality, got an unexpected rare visitor last week — a black Kookaburra.

And Anne’s hospitality must have impressed the bird, as it made another appearance the next day.

While there have been sightings of black kookaburras in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, this is the first sighting in the Mathoura area.

Actually, albino kookaburras are more common than black ones, although the last sighting of one of these was in Queensland in 2010.
