to continue seeking deeper understanding. Seasons of doubt are a prime time to increase our personal knowledge of the Bible and church history, along with a thoughtful review of our own faith journey.

You’ve probably discovered that dealing with doubt isn’t a once-for-all challenge or season. Doubt will likely recur but you need not provoke fear, as though recoiling from a snake you unwittingly stepped on! It’s safe and appropriate to pick up doubt, examine it, hold it up to the light of God’s Word and bring it confidently before God and others as you seek advice in your quest for reassurance.

Just as Thomas received acceptance and assurance in his faith crisis, you also can lean with confidence on the loving and faithful Saviour, who will safely usher your faith through every season. he reason the Church is alive and growing 2000 years after its inception is because doubters throughout the years have pressed in to discover why they believed what they believed about Jesus Christ, in whom they placed their trust. Presbyterian theologian Frederick Buechner offers this unique analogy: “Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving.” Surely an alert and active faith is the variety we all desire, and is what our world desperately needs.
