Date set for community sport

After a month of waiting there is now a date for when community sport in regional Victoria is likely to return.

The Victorian Government on September 19 announced its roadmap out of lockdown and it highlighted competitive sport would not return until the state reached its 80 per cent fully-vaccinated target.

Victoria is predicted to hit that target on November 5.

This will put a line through competitions, such as Cricket Shepparton, Goulburn Valley Bowls, Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis and Shepparton District Tennis associations starting their respective seasons in early October.

Once that November 5 target is reached, community sport will be permitted indoors and outdoors with the minimum number of participants required.

Crowds will be permitted, but there will be public gathering limits applied to the amount of spectators that can attend.

Premier Daniel Andrews outlined roadmaps for regional and metro areas, with both areas scheduled to realign once 80 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

Regional Victoria's roadmap indicated the current rules for community sport would be in place until the state reaches its 70 per cent target.

At the moment only training is allowed for outside community sport, while no spectators are able to attend.

Outdoor personal training can have up to 10 people including the trainer, while gyms can have 10 people indoors and 20 attend outdoor facilities.

Outdoor community recreation facilities remain at 20 people a facility, however, no caps apply if a distance of 50m can be maintained between groups.

Once Victoria reaches 70 per cent fully vaccinated, which is predicted to happen on October 26, there will be an adjustment of the rules.

Indoor community sport returns for the minimum number of participants required.

Physical recreation can return indoors for 30 fully vaccinated people or the density quotient of four square metres.

Outdoor sport is training only, but spectators – in line with public gathering limits – are able to attend.
