Apply now for next round of infrastructure fund
Does your sporting club need a spruce up?
If so, why not tap into the Victorian Government’s pledge to upgrade sporting complexes around the state through its 2021-22 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Recently, Community Sport Minister Ros Spence announced applications had opened for the fund, which assists communities in gaining cutting-edge facilities to draw in numbers and promote healthier lifestyles.
“Investing in new and upgraded facilities means community clubs can support more players and host more events safely as we progressively reopen,” Spence said.
“We’re creating a level playing field and urge councils and sporting organisations to think creatively about how they can support their communities with innovative and inclusive facilities.”
The $27 million reserve fund is set to aid projects across five separate channels: indoor stadiums/aquatic centres, female-friendly facilities, community sports lighting, community facilities, and planning.
A special focus has been placed on boosting participation among women and girls.
In an attempt to entice women and girls into the sporting realm, the grant amount available to develop female-friendly facilities has increased to up to $800,000.
It becomes part of a larger push to stimulate local economies while encouraging people to stay active and healthy as sporting clubs, leagues and associations slowly map out a return to play.
Additionally, the planning stream will support councils in developing projects to meet the changing needs of their communities.
The most recent round of the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund provided funding to 73 projects, part of a total $1.1 billion invested by the Victorian Government in the community sport and active recreation infrastructure sector since 2014.
Clubs are advised to contact their local council to help with the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund application process.
“Sporting clubs are the lifeblood of our communities, and they deserve modern, accessible and safe facilities,” Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
“Better facilities allow clubs to take on more players, host more events and draw in bigger crowds.”
