Valley Views Bowls Club

-

Midweek Pennant last Friday had a general bye.

This week’s match is at Valley View against Rich River; with only two matches remaining for the season let’s hope for some good bowling.

Saturday Pennant saw the Valley View team playing Rich River at Rich River in a very close contest, only going down by five shots 36/41.

Ken Black’s rink of Dave Cavell, Frank Findlay and Geoff Beamish got away to a handy lead of 10 to 4 after the 11th end. R. Ritchie’s team picked up six shots over the next three ends to have scores tied at 10/10 after the 14th end.

With scores still tied at 13-all after the 17th end, the Valley View team picked up four shots to Rich River’s zero to lead 17 to 13 going into the last end. Unfortunately for the Valley View team Rich River picked up an unbelievable five shots on the last to take victory by on shot, 18/17.

Ron Donohue’s rink of Graeme Topp, Bob Greenaway and Alf Soden were up against B. Brown’s team.

Valley View led 6 to 2 after the 5th end, but by the 9th scores were all square at 7 each.

Rich River then picked up 11 shots to the Valley View’s team three over the next six ends to be up by eight shots 18/10 after the 15th. The Valley View team picked up a handy four shots on the next to bridge the gap back to four. With both teams scoring four shots each over the remaining five ends, Valley View fell short by four shots, 19/23.

Good bowling next week at Elmore.

60 and Over

The Campaspe Valley and District 60 and Over Bowls Group held its Wednesday weekly bowls at Moama Bowls Club on February 16 on a hot and cloudy day.

There were 24 teams, that’s 96 players, competing for a chook and the Murray Hearing Services trophy

Three teams had won three games and then rolled off to within the yard stick.

An Echuca team had two bowls within the yard stick to come second.

They were Kevin Mcasey lead, Steve (Knockers) Nolan second, John Hollowood third and Tony Deenen was the skipper. It was Knockers’ first day at 60 and Over and he went home with a chook — well done.

The Elmore team of Paul Frawley lead, Graham Mercher second, Phil Mace third and Allan Gerrish (skipper) were the winners on the day with five bowls near the jack. They were presented with the Murray Hearing Services shield.

Both teams’ members received a chook each.

We would like to thank Moama Bowls Club also, which has been a great supporter of the 60 and Over bowls.

On Wednesday, February 23, 60 and Over bowls is at Elmore Bowls Club, 10am start.

Entries to Phil Mace on 0428 290 351 or Allan Gerrish on 0427 461 448 or on the sheet at the Elmore Bowls Club.

Good bowling to all.
