Serious Urban Play is an interactive tool that assists communities to better understand the complexities of managing the urban environment. The clever use of gaming software to engage people of all ages is central to its appeal, as demonstrated by its popularity in classrooms. The accessible learning device encourages a wider appreciation of the importance of urban design in shaping communities and illustrates the challenges of resolving competing demands at the neighbourhood scale.

The conversion of a multidisciplinary research project into a practical teaching aid is one of the project’s most positive aspects. It makes a valuable contribution by raising urban design awareness and educating communities about making better real-life choices to shape the cities and neighbourhoods of the future.
