JURY COMMENT
The jury was impressed by the restrained elegance and contemporary detailing of The Lily Pads, located in the important heritage setting of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. This competition winning entry features three simple circular timber decks that appear to float on the famous lily pond. The quality of the design provides the gardens with valuable flexibility – the space that can change from a reflective setting for individuals to a more active and social platform that can host up to fifty people.
Commissioned as part of the bicentennial celebrations of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, The Lily Pads is an excellent piece of contemporary Australian design that belongs in and enhances the quality of the surrounding gardens. The design team is commended for the expression of this proposal and its commitment to seeing the elegance of the structure executed so effectively in the final installation.
