Yagan Square — Aspect Studios, Lyons Architecture and Iredale Pedersen Hook JURY COMMENT

Yagan Square is a project of local and state significance that encapsulates the idea of convergence. Design elements repair and amplify physical connections to adjacent areas, enabling the project to pose as Perth’s new epicentre. Emblematic Western Australian water geometry, stone and plants feature alongside stories of the Whadjuk Noongar people to create a stimulating and transcending landscape. Yagan Square weaves together an entrancing story of Western Australia’s history and respectfully considers the traditional owners of the land while providing civic purpose.

Karratha Health Campus JURY COMMENT

Karratha Health Campus is a celebration of remote Western Australia, demonstrating sensitivity to the harsh natural climate while also drawing out the inherent vibrancy of the land. Selected materials and a rich colour palette reinforce the character of the region. The jury applauded the balance of design formality and informality, and the absence of planting. The design promotes better health, evokes a sense of comfort and provides connection to the land, making the campus far more than just a hospital.

Malop Street Green Spine — Outlines Landscape Architecture JURY COMMENT

Malop Street Green Spine in Geelong is a shining example of how traditional retail streets can become inviting public spaces during the day and at night. The jury celebrated the project’s inclusion of intimate spaces not often seen in streetscape design and commended its water-sensitive urban design measures. A horticultural connection to Johnstone Park and Geelong Botanic Gardens is established through the use of Indigenous and exotic species. Malop Street champions inclusivity, vibrancy, community and the natural environment.
