Siting and Design Guidelines for Structures on the Victorian Coast is a compelling, accessible and important planning document that promises to lead to more sensitively designed and placed structures in Victoria’s special coastal landscapes through raising design literacy and knowledge of place. In this landscape-led document, coastal forms are the evocative starting point. From there, principles for sensitive environmental design responses are unpacked and illustrated. The photography and use of precedent skilfully communicate what might otherwise have been a dry planning document, resulting in an aspirational publication that will be a joy to use.
