The jury was impressed by the rigorous approach and innovative re-imagining of blue-green infrastructure demonstrated in the Maribyrnong Waterfront IWM. It is rare to find a project that embraces both the destructive and beautiful elements of water while maximizing its social and ecological opportunities. Using nature-based climate adaptation solutions to create new hydrological, biological and social ecosystems, the Maribyrnong Waterfront IWM is a flagship example of how cities can deal with stormwater management as well as add unique social, cultural and natural values to increase liveability for their residents.
