URBAN NATIVE WILDFLOWER MEADOWS TRIALLED IN MELBOURNE
A project by City of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne’s Green Infrastructure Research Group is investigating methods of developing and maintaining a native understorey ecosystem on urban land. Twenty-seven species of native wildflowers and grasses have been sown across 54 test plots on the 1,300-square-metre site in inner Melbourne, with species selected to provide habitat, extend flowering time and achieve plant growth across challenging conditions.
