REDEVELOPMENT OF ST KILDA PIER
Jackson Clements Burrows Architects with Site Office and AW Maritime engineers have produced a design for Melbourne’s iconic pier that aims to respect its existing heritage aspects while enhancing the visitor experience. Features include a new pier and boat landing, a seating terrace and pavilion, a Little Penguin viewing boardwalk and the retention of the much-loved heritage kiosk. The design aims to be resilient to rising sea levels, imperceptibly ascending as it projects out into the bay. The wave wall was also designed in response to wave and climate change modelling. Construction on the project will begin in 2021, with completion in 2023. Image: courtesy Jackson Clements Burrows Architects
