Jury comment
Cooling Darwin builds on an understanding of microclimate and urban heat with landscape architectural responses. It is a pilot project that represents a meaningful way to transform the city centre by improving the quality of its streetscapes and the comfort level of pedestrians. While the project works at an urban district scale, the jury saw opportunities to intervene across more levels to achieve better cooling measures for difficult spaces. The jury is keen to see how this design approach might expand over time and would like to see further research and longer-term explorations.
