Jury comment

The recent enhancement of Moort-ak Waadiny/ Wellington Square in East Perth, Western Australia is a significant step forward in promoting a more proactive, strategic and sustainable future for this park. The jury was compelled by the strong use of colour, the exuberant variety of spaces and the proactive integration of local Whadjuk stories in this valuable recreational reserve. Combined, these elements celebrate the site’s importance as a meeting place and its strong cultural connection to play.

The park’s successful revitalization provides an essential green space in the heart of a growing residential area, delicately weaving together the program of play and the fabric of place in a way that has built strong community connection and local significance.
