Are you as bored with fashion as I am at the moment? Been looking for something to peak your interest? Maybe even excite you? A male designer who knows what a woman wants to wear and how flamboyant she is willing to go? With Father’s
Day tomorrow, we celebrate creative men today.
Julian Napier is a young theatrical fashion designer based on the Gold Coast. At just 26 years of age, Julian has established a solid brand tailored to the lady who dares to be different. Yes!
Following high school, Julian became increasingly intrigued by the world of fashion and designing creative garments and he enrolled to study Applied Fashion Design and
Technology at the Australian Institute of
Creative Design on the Gold Coast. He founded his eponymous label “Julian Napier” while studying and creating his first collections at college. Winning the Electric Playground Club Couture Design Award helped inspire him to build brand awareness of the label by establishing an extensive online profile through social media, a website and networking with creatives in the industry.
After graduating in 2011, Julian was offered the opportunity for an internship with the costume department on the set of the movie Bad Karma, starring Dominic Purcel and Ray Liotta. This led him to take on further roles in the industry such as costume designer for short film Seeking Sorrel Wood; costume designer for Tara Simmons’ music video Be Gone; costume designer for the play Medea: The River Runs Backwards; and an internship with Kitten D’amour.
Julian continued to raise the profile of the label with multiple seasonal collections under the Julian Napier brand. These have been showcased with theatrical photoshoots and broadcast to his established online following; the most recent of which was in July 2016 for a Look Book photoshoot at the Royal Queensland Art Society’s gallery in Broadbeach.
The future will see many more unique collections designed and made locally on the Gold Coast. As the Julian Napier label continues to grow, there are plans to expand the offering of custom-made garments and increase the label’s presence in the costume sector of the industry.
Julian Napier is bringing theatrics to the Sunshine Coast. He will showcase on the catwalk at the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival on October 22. See www.juliannapier.com.au and www.sunshinecoastfashionfestival.com.
