Kansas City is home to the National World War I Museum and Memorial, America’s official museum dedicated to the First World War: theworldwar.org. The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts, which opened in 2011, is attracting big names thanks to its acclaimed acoustics. There’s always something on as the centre is the performance home of the Kansas City Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Ballet: kauffmancenter.org. Union Station, a former rail hub that has been converted into an entertainment precinct, hosts a variety of family-friendly activities including the permanent Science City installation. It is currently hosting the North American premiere of The Pompeii Exhibition: unionstation.org. Kansas City is known as the City of Fountains and the largest concentration of fountains are in the Country Club Plaza shopping district: countryclubplaza.com. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art features the renowned Hallmark Photographic Collection and a sculpture garden including the famous 5.8m-tall shuttlecocks: nelson-atkins.org.
