A side of wifi with your coffee?
After a surf, or waiting for a swell, Sunshine Coast cafes have answered the call with barbers, boards, baristas and, of course, plenty of espresso
CAFE survival for the 21st century: good coffee with a side of wi-fi.
While surfing the web and sipping a flat white is a winning combo, a few Sunshine Coast cafes have gone one step further and literally combined surfing with coffee. Stocking all kinds of surf gear from apparel to boards and even surf photography plus the liquid gold to fuel a surf, we’ve mapped out five of the best board shapers/baristas on the Coast.
Compound Secondhand Surf and Espresso
Surf and drink coffee is their motto, but there is so much more behind Compound Secondhand Surf and Espresso. The not-for-profit venture had been brewing in the minds of Coolum surfers, Abe Andrews and Aaron Bradley, for years. Their dream was to create a space for surfing enthusiasts to hang out and meet like-minded people while perusing quality surf-brand clothing, surfboards and other equipment to raise money for Christian Surfers Australia. That dream became a reality in September 2014 and the team at Compound are still pumping out coffees, surf gear and overall good vibes. Get involved by donating items like surf-branded clothing, beachwear, retro or vintage surfboards, kids' surf clothing and other surf accessories like wetsuits, fins and leg ropes. Any clothing not sold in store will be given to other charities to help surf communities overseas. 23B/15 Heathfield Rd, Coolum Beach. Glass Coffee House and Surf Gallery Glassy conditions call for early mornings, long surfs, coffee breaks, delicious fuel and more surfing. Glass Coffee House and Surf Gallery understand what surfers want and have combined it in one colourful little driftwood shack a block back from Maroochydore Beach. Offering a unique space for ocean lovers to relax, enjoy some fresh coffee and food while checking out the collection of locally crafted MS Surfboards and photography on display. 4 80–82 Sixth Ave, Maroochydore.
