Stuff it all – but do it stylishly

Life & Style Weekend - - HOME - with Tracey Hordern

WE COLLECT, we buy and we are given and bequeathed “stuff” endlessly for our homes. But where exactly are we supposed to store all this stuff that we have gathered? Whether it is storing bed linen, paperwork, books, toys or wine, most of us need to get creative when it comes to combating clutter. Here are a few solutions to help store your “stuff”.

◗ THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX: Most storage boxes are relegated to places like the garage, leaving you little option to access what you have stored. A better alternative is to consider creating shelving for items you do want to see and access, such as books and knick-knacks. You can even add lighting to this shelving for great effect.

◗ CREATING SPACE OUT OF UNUSED CAVITIES: There are now all sorts of storage solutions, in a number of sizes and shapes to fit almost any small space, such as under a staircase or in an unused corner. If you think creatively, you can usually transform most unused nooks into stylish storage options.

◗ PRETTY AND PRACTICAL WINDOW SEATS: Window seats are as practical as they are attractive. If you have the space to create a window seat, use that option. You can then use the space under the seat to store items such as linen, extra blankets and cushions.

◗ GOING UP THE WALL: Walls can easily be converted into shelving for books or other prized pieces and even as storage for wines.
